# Quickstart

> Make a read-only request, then deliberately send a test message.

## Before you begin

Have a Watahub API key and an active phone assigned to your account. The base URL is `https://cloud.watahub.dev`. Example values are placeholders; no requests have been executed for you.

## List your numbers

```bash theme={null}
curl --fail-with-body 'https://cloud.watahub.dev/v1/phones' \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $WATAHUB_API_KEY"
```

Use the intended phone's ID from your response, not its display number.

## Send a test message

> [!WARNING]
>
> This sends a real WhatsApp message. Contact only an authorized recipient. Meta's messaging rules still apply.

```bash theme={null}
curl --fail-with-body 'https://cloud.watahub.dev/v1/messages' \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $WATAHUB_API_KEY" \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data '{"phoneNumberId":"PHONE_NUMBER_ID","to":"RECIPIENT_NUMBER","kind":"text","text":{"body":"Hello from Watahub"}}'
```

Replace both placeholders first. Success includes `success`, `messageId`, `recipient` and `phoneNumberId`. Acceptance is not proof of delivery: use [status webhooks](https://docs.watahub.dev/en/webhooks.md).

For `unknown_outcome`, do not blindly resend: the message may already have been sent. See [errors and retries](https://docs.watahub.dev/en/errors.md).
